HUNTINGDON manager Al Lenihan breathed a huge sigh of relief as Town ended a dismal run of six league defeats with victory in Northamptonshire.

An abysmal run of form has seen Town slip into the mire at the foot of the league, but Stuart Eason’s goal settled the game – and Town’s nerves – on Saturday.

“Lady Luck had deserted us in many of the last six games – we could have had a couple of wins and draws from some of them, but we didn’t get the breaks.

Lenihan has struggled to get a settled back four together after the loss of several key players since the start of the season, which has hampered his team’s chances.

“Young players have stepped up to the mark and on Saturday they showed how quickly they have developed. The back four with Dave Beeny behind them worked as a unit, the midfield ran the show, and we popped away a good goal for a deserved win.”

Beeny had to pull off a one-handed save midway through the first half but was seldom bothered as the visitors dominated.

That rare Sileby chance was punished in style as Eason netted soon after the key save.

Lenihan expects more of the same on Saturday when Town entertain Buckingham Town at Jubilee Park. Their visitors are three places below Huntingdon, but have won three of their last four league games.

Lenihan added: “There’s along way to go in the league. Sileby’s form had taken them close to the top and we beat them . If we can do that we can beat anyone.”
