EIGHTY-one crews from Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire participated in the Huntingdon Boat Club Head of the River race.

The home club claimed the prize in the Men’s Masters C Quad event, as Andy Wood’s crew covered the 5km course from Houghton Mill to Godmanchester Bridge in 15.03mins.

Edward Adams from Huntingdon won the elite single scull event and the RAF’s Tim Ellis won the Men’s Masters C single scull.

Huntingdon’s Trevor Scales took the Masters B single scull title, while St Neots crews won the J15 double sculls and the women’s IM3 quad.

Becs Williams of St Ives took the Women’s Masters A single scull prize, and the fastest crew on the day was the men’s Cantabrigian eight, who crossed in 14.18 mins.

Huntingdon BC vice-captain Marlene Taylor said: “It was great to see so many clubs enjoying our beautiful stretch of river.

“We aim to promote rowing from grass roots up so we were happy to see rowers of all ages and ability levels enjoying the river. I hope this will encourage local rowers to come down and give it a go.”
