St Ives Town Ladies continued their excellent start to life in the Eastern Region Women’s League with a high-scoring Sunday success.

Darren Marjoram’s side extended their unbeaten Division One run to seven games when thumping BSC FC 8-0 at Westwood Road.

Hot-shot striker Tierney Coulson led the way as she fired four goals for the second time in three games.

Coulson broke the deadlock after just two minutes and that opener was swiftly followed by a first Saints goal for new signing Emily Smith.

They had to wait until the closing stages of the first half to extend their advantage further as Georgia Stancombe made no mistake from the penalty spot after Coulson was brought down.

St Ives had been guilty of allowing the tempo to drop during the opening period, but they played with purpose and intent throughout a second half in which they added five further goals.

Coulson and Smith quickly put the result beyond doubt before Katie Stancombe struck with a quarter-of-an-hour to go.

Coulson completed her hat-trick moments later and still had time to add her fourth goal of the afternoon – and 14th of a prolific season.

“We’re absolutely delighted with how the season has gone so far,” said Marjoram.

“We played very well in spells on Sunday and it’s great to still be unbeaten, but I know there is still more to come from the players.

“They would say exactly the same thing and it is an absolute pleasure to work with such a determined and dedicated group.

“We know there are a lot of big tests ahead and we’re looking forward to them.”

Saints, who sit third in the standings with games in hand, are likely to face their toughest clash so far when travelling to second-placed Bowers & Pitsea this Sunday.

The club’s Development side enjoyed a dramatic extra-time success last Sunday.

They saw off Haverhill Rovers 3-2 to make progress in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship Cup.

Pen Ford opened the scoring for Saints, but they found themselves behind until Emilee Steel levelled in the second half.

Keeper Sophie Marjoram pulled off a series of fine saves for Saints before Steel hit their winner in the additional half-an-hour.
