A TEENAGER from Duloe near St Neots is celebrating after successfully riding her way to the Horse of the Year Show. Fourteen-year-old Kirsty Pavely competes for the Oakley Hunt West club in a competition known as the Mounted Games. Kirsty was part of the squad at the Zone Finals held last month and Oakley Hunt West saw off the challenge of six other teams, finishing clear of the field by nine points. Mounted Games involves several different team disciplines such as balloon bursting, vaulting and a ball and racket race - which is the most difficult, according to Kirsty. The Games are a prestigous part of the Horse of the Year Show in which teams compete for the Prince Philip Cup. Kirsty has been riding since she was two years old and now rides almost every day. She has had her horse, Minstrel, since October. Kirsty said: "Everyone in the team is so thrilled to have qualified for the Horse of the Year Show. "I'm not nervous yet but I probably will be nearer the time. Right now I'm just really excited." The Horse of the Year Show takes place from October 4-8 this year.
