Favourite backers were counting their cash - and bookmakers were left running for cover - as a series of fancied horses did the business at Huntingdon Racecourse last night (Tuesday).

The opening four races of the Ladies’ Night card were won by the market leaders with jockey Aidan Coleman aboard two of them.

He steered 2/1 shot Hepijeu, for trainer Charlie Longsdon, to victory in the 188Bet Handicap Chase over two-and-a-half miles and doubled-up half-an-hour later when aboard Pongo Twistleton for Jonjo O’Neill in the Extra Place Races At 188Bet Handicap Hurdle. That winner returned at a price of 15/8 in a race over a shade under two-and-a-half miles.

Champion jockey Richard Johnson took the opening two-mile Ticket Giveaways At 188Bet Maiden Hurdle on New Agenda, a 1/4 odds-on shot trained by Paul Webber.

Lake Chapala then completed a hat-trick in the second race of the night when coming home in front in the Follow Us On Twitter At 188Bet Handicap Hurdle, also over two miles, for the combination of jockey Marc Goldstein and trainer Chris Gordon.

The 7/2 chance obliged over the smaller obstacles after winning his previous two outings over fences.

Cobra De Mai was the easiest winner of the night in the race which attracted the smallest field. Jockey Harry Skelton steered brother Dan’s horse home by 23 lengths in the three-runner Champions League Betting At 188Bet Novices’ Chase, over a shade more than two miles.

The biggest-priced winner on the evening arrived in the longest race. The Happy Chappy took the spoils at 16-1 for Cambridgeshire trainer Sarah Humphrey and jockey Nick Scholfield in the Live Casino At 188Bet Handicap Hurdle over a shade over three mile.

The concluding Boxing Betting At 188Bet Novices’ Hunters’ Chase went the way of 9-4 chance Broken Eagle (jockey Mr Joe Hill riding for Alan Hill).

The next fixture at Huntingdon is the Big Family Fun Raceday on Bank Holiday Monday. There’s seven races on the track from 12.30pm with a host of family attractions off it.
