HUNTINGDON Racecourse’s Boxing Day fixture has been called off because of flooding.

The decision was made at midday on Sunday after the flood water rose again on Saturday and more rain is expected over the next few days.

General manager Sophie Able said: “Even if the water started to recede rapidly – and that is highly unlikely because of the rain that we are forecast for Monday – there is no prospect that the track or its facilities can be returned to order in time for Boxing Day.

“Unfortunately we have had to abandon. It is hugely disappointing for our spectators because Boxing Day is our most popular day of the year – and especially so this year after losing our November Saturday fixture because of flooding and this month’s Betfred Peterborough Chase day because of frost.”

Spectators who have booked tickets for the Boxing Day meeting at Huntingdon Racecourse will be automatically refunded.
