The unbeaten locals have clinched promotion from Division Two North-West of the East Womens League with four games to spare. A 4-0 success against Alford & District last Saturday put St Ives in an unassailable position. Now they need only two more points to be assured of the title. Captain Helen Clarke said: We have worked hard to ensure we could bounce straight back up after being relegated last season. Were delighted to have clinched promotion with so many games to spare. Now we need to prepare for a return to the tougher level next season. Captain Clarke hit a hat-trick to help secure promotion as all the goals against Alford & District arrived in the second half. Clarke struck twice from penalty corners before Claire Wibberley-Young got in on the goalscoring act when also providing a clinical finish to a set-piece. Clarke increased the margin of victory when burying a fine solo effort with the final touch of the game. There could be a promotion treble for the St Ives ladies section. The 2nds boosted their prospects of climbing out of Division Three North-West with a 2-1 success against fellow promotion hopefuls Ely City 1sts last Saturday. Sally King and Helen Seabourne found the net while the 3rds remain in the thick of the race to rise out of Division Four North-West (South) despite a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ely City 2nds. Huntingdon Ladies celebrated a double last Saturday. Lucy Lumbers hit a late winner as the 1sts snatched a 3-2 triumph against Spalding 3rds in Division Three North-West. Huntingdon fell behind early on, but strikes from Sarah Chadband and Cora Davies edged them ahead before the break. Spalding drew level in the second period, but Lumbers settled the contest after some fine work also involving Natalie Dobson. The 2nds also claimed victory when seeing off Cambridge City 5ths 2-1 in Division Four North-West (South). Youngster Nicola Finch and Jo Abel hit the Huntingdon goals as they completed a hat-trick of wins in their past three games. St Neots Ladies 1sts went down to Cambridge City 3rds by a single goal in Division Two North-West as they suffered a first defeat of 2016 to end an eight-game unbeaten run. The 3rds also lost to a City side as they were beaten 6-0 by the table-topping 4ths in Division Four North-West (South). The 2nds suffered two defeats in the same weekend, going down 3-2 to Letchworth 4ths and 1-0 to Berkhamsted Hemel 2nds in the Five Counties League. St Neots Mens 2nds clinched the Division Five North-West title in the East Mens League. They extended their 100 per cent record to 18 games with a 7-1 drubbing of Bourne Deeping 5ths to move into an unassailable position at the summit. Danny Rowland-Cox (2), Sean Sanderson, Evan Lincoln, Charlie Gardner, Chris Butterworth and Danny Stephenson hit the goals. St Neots 3rds kept their promotion hopes alive in Division Six North-West (South) as two Adam Horlock goals and a Kev Sequenza strike secured a 3-1 victory against Cambridge Nomads 3rds. A late equaliser from Chris Mailes earned the 4ths a 1-1 draw against the 5ths in the latest in-house game at that level. Paul Lawman had opened the scoring.
