A GOALLESS draw against Wisbech II proved to be the best result of the weekend for St Neots.

Neots battled hard throughout the match to earn a vital point which kept them off the foot of the East Division 3NW table.

Though they could not find the breakthrough that would have given them breathing space from the bottom, club captain Richard Simons said the point was a crucial one.

“It was important that we didn’t lose the game, as the two teams below us had a game in hand, so 0-0 was a good result.

“Considering that it was a slip match against Wisbech’s second side rescheduled from a couple of weeks ago, there’s always a chance that they were able to draft in some stronger players, so we did well to get a draw.”

Neots’ other teams had few points to comfort them, as the second team travelled to City of Peterborough IV and were beaten 4-0 in Division 4NW.

St Neots III also came out on the wrong end of a goal-packed game, as they went down 6-3 at home to Rutland III. Adam Horlock, Josh Spinks and Phil Gillett chipped in with the Neots goals, though they proved to be in vain.
