A SKIN of their teeth escape from relegation in East League Division 1N looks to have been achieved by St Ives ladies firsts - just.

The bitter blow of Saturday's 3-1 home defeat against Cambridge University firsts was softened somewhat with the news that results elsewhere had gone their way, meaning Ives finished eighth in the table.

They will now await confirmation from the league before popping the champagne corks.

Vicky Leighton scored in Saturday's defeat while, afterwards, the end-of-season awards were revealed.

Players' player of the season was awarded to Shelley Read and first team player of the season went to Helen Clarke.

Long-standing skipper Leighton was awarded the club woman of the season prize for her contribution to St Ives.
