CRICKETERS from Eaton Socon are celebrating after completing the most successful season in the club's history.
The club's Sunday first team has just been promoted in their first season in the 45-over Rutland League division five competition.
A convincing 122-run victory at East Carlton CC on Sunday secured promotion for Socon, who join their Saturday counterparts in achieving promotion.
The Saturday side has been promoted to the Cambs and Hunts Premier Division for the first time, having topped the table from the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Eaton Socon also claimed the East Bedfordshire senior shield.
Club president John Wright said he was delighted with the team's progress under captain Terry Day.
"This is a triumph for Terry, who has moulded a team that combined the essential ingredients of youth and experience.
"Everyone has chipped in when needed and each player in the squad can be proud of his individual contribution."
Of the bowlers, seam trio Dominic Marchant, Glenn Daniel and Az Nawaz dominated the start of each innings throughout the season and spinner Jon Carpenter chipped in with more than 40 wickets for the first team.
In the batting line-up, Matt Rawling and teenage wicket-keeper David Humphrey were the heavy scorers.
Humphrey scored a magnificent 145 not out in one innings during the season, whilst Richard Nicklin and Tony Reedman each scored maiden centuries.
Earlier this season The Hunts Post reported how youth coach Chris McKay was recognised by Sky Sports for his work revitalising the club's junior section.
McKay was rewarded for his dedication to the club since taking over the juniors six years ago and seeing numbers and interest grow year-on-year.
Among the youth section, Ben Reedman and Carpenter each took more than 50 wickets across the season.
