JEZ HALL and Warren Everdell are celebrating after being named the United Counties League Premier Division managers of the month.

The pair won the honour after a remarkable October run during which the Saints won eight games, scored 30 goals and conceded just four.

That run of result meant they closed the month in fifth after beginning it in 19th.

A delighted Hall said: “It’s nice to get the award, we didn’t get one last year, so it shows we are doing something right this year.”

But he insisted: “It’s all about team-work – I can’t stress that enough. It isn’t just about me and Warren – it’s about Errol McCannon and Richard Philps, and all of the players. It’s about the fans that stand on the terrace singing their hearts out.

“Eight wins and 30 goals isn’t a bad record really, is it? We’re playing very well to be fair.

“And you can tell by the way the fans get behind us that we are a good team to watch too – there is nobody else in this league apart from King’s Lynn who can get an atmosphere going at home grounds like we can. All the lads who stands on the terrace are mates, old players etc – they are real St Ives supporters.”

Hall and Everdell have been joint managers at the club for 10 years. “I think Saturday’s game was out 485th,” he added. That game was a 4-0 home win over Cogenhoe United, their ninth win on the bounce.

Meanwhile, Eynesbury Rovers’ joint manager Paul Dodson got a “nice” phone call from his chairman Brian Abraham after being named United Counties League Division One manager of the month – but said there was no bubbly on offer. “That would have been a bit much,” said the boss, who oversaw a run of six wins in six games in October. “This is Eynesbury we’re talking about…”

Three League wins and three wins in cup competitions made for a successful month after the club went through a rocky spell following the departure of Dodson’s co-boss Matt Plumb. But Plumb returned recently and Dodson says the award for is for everyone at the club – not just himself.

“We have grown in confidence and it’s down to the players really that we have won these games. They have been listening to what we have been telling them and doing the right things week-in, week-out on the pitch.

Eynesbury beat Bourne Town 4-0 in the United Counties League Cup on Saturday and are currently fifth in the table.
