Rising Huntingdon Gymnastics Club star Jake Jarman earned two medals in a major international event at the weekend.

The 15 year-old was one of two British gymnastics to take part in the Japan Junior International and produced a fine display to take bronze with a 78.65 score.

Jarman also qualified for four apparatus finals and collected silver in the vault thanks to a couple of classy and complex efforts.

Coach Ben Howells, who travelled to the Far East with his young talent, said: “It has been a fantastic experience for Jake, who demonstrated both his tremendous ability and potential to win medals in such a high-class field.

“Our sights are now firmly set on the European Championships next year – and we hope to be back in Tokyo in 2020 for the Olympic Games.”

Plenty of other promising Huntingdon gymnasts have been in action closer to home in recent days.

Beni Eyre took a big step towards earning a place in the Commonwealth Games next year when impressing at a Welsh trial event.

He met the required qualification standard on two pieces of apparatus and recorded a pleasing overall score of 76.55

The 18 year-old has another big date next month when representing Wales in the Northern European Championships in the Faroe Islands.

Seven of the club’s juniors qualified for the National Finals in November with their performances at the Regional Setwork Qualifer in Ipswich.

Kieron Burch and Ryan Cirino grabbed gold and silver respectively in the Elite Level 5 category, while Sol Scott took bronze in the Under 12 Elite bracket.

Niall Hooton won the Under 13 Club Level competition and Bradley Cooper picked up silver at Under 12 Club Level.

Under 9 gymnasts Jaden Coleman and Gabriel Bell also qualified.

Also representing Huntingdon well were Josh Papworth, (fifth in Under 13 Club), Sunny Mayo (16th in Under 9), Finn Barrett (17th in Under 9) and Jensen Carver (ninth in Under 8).
