THE race to win the title and promotion from the UCL Premier will go right down to the wire.

That is the view of St Neots Town manager Dennis Greene as his side prepare to enter the business end of the season.

Saints will go into tomorrow night’s match at Blackstones two behind in second spot, should King’s Lynn pick up maximum points from their scheduled fixture at Raunds tonight (Tuesday).

However, a win for Greene’s side tomorrow will see them re-take the lead and could further extend that advantage on Saturday, by defeating Boston Town at home and with the Linnets in FA Vase action.

Newport Pagnell Town, currently in third, are also a point behind Neots but have played two games more.

Pagnell are in League Cup action this weekend, but will be looking to throw a spanner in the works when they visit The Hunts Post Community Stadium for a re-arranged fixture on Tuesday night.

Their game at Rothwell Corinthians on Saturday was postponed, while Lynn squeezed to a 1-0 home win over Wellingborough Town 2004 - following up on their heavy 6-0 hammering of Yaxley four days earlier.

Ahead of their testing fixture at Blackstones, Greene said: “After the weekend, both ourselves and King’s Lynn have got 14 games left and they’re all going to be key now.

“It’s going to go right down to the wire. They’ve got some tough fixtures - so have we - and we’ve got to be focused on each game as it comes along.”

Saints certainly know all about Blackstones, who claimed a 3-3 draw at Neots a little over 10 days ago and, having been 2-0 and 3-1 down, it needed a stoppage time leveller from Lewis Webb to snatch a point.

But Greene is confident there will be no slip ups this time. “Last week when we drew 3-3, the pitch was in quite a bad state and that really makes it hard for us to play our passing football,” Greene said.

“We also missed Shane Tolley and Dan Jacob for that game - who are massive players for us - but both will be available tonight.

“And, hopefully, dropping points last week will make the players even more determined to go there and pick up three points.”

The fitness of captain Glen Fuff will be assessed prior to the game after he required stitches to the head following a collision with team mate Lewis Christon during the 3-0 Hunts Senior Cup semi-final win over Eaton Socon on Saturday.
