SOME sterling work with juniors has earned St Neots Golf Club the prestigious GolfMark status.
The award recognises the work done by Paul Toyer, the club’s director of golf and PGA professional Mark Wall, who devised a special programme for young golfers just starting out.
Toyer said: “It’s been hard work, but all the effort has paid off and we’re overjoyed to have been accredited with the GolfMark award.
“We have an extensive junior coaching programme and, with the GolfMark award, it gives parents and guardians added assurance that their children can come to St Neots Golf Club and learn about, and play, golf in a safe and friendly environment.”
The GolfMark award, presented by John Harvey of the Cambridgeshire County Golf Partnership, is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner-friendly golf facilities, with clubs being assessed on three key areas – coaching and playing, club environment and child protection and duty of care.
Local schools have also been benefiting from Toyer and Wall’s expertise – both of whom have more than 20 years coaching experience.
The duo have visited a number of primary schools in the town teaching children the sport using Tri-Golf equipment – colourful plastic clubs and balls, suitable for youngsters.
