There was glory for a bunch of Godmanchester Town Under 14s last weekend – but only after they had beaten their own team-mates.
The local side split in half to enter two teams in the Woburn & Wavendon Lions Super 6s Tournament and their Blue team took the honours.
They only sneaked through from the group stage on goal difference before beating stablemates Godmanchester Town White in a semi-final penalty shoot-out.
They prevailed 2-1 from the spot following a goalless deadlock to advance to a final showdown against Shenley Phantoms.
And the team of Luke Cosbey, Tom Martin, Josh France, Lennon Zoric, Travis Paynter, Alex Swanston, Charlie Davis and Rhys Humphrey went on to record a 2-0 victory in the showpiece clash to be crowned winners.
