It was a Saturday for bowlers to remember and batsmen to forget as 20 wickets fell for just 97 runs in one Hunts League thriller.

Godmanchester Town 2nds triumphed by 23 runs at Waresley 2nds in Division Two – despite being dismissed for just 60 themselves!

It could have been far worse as they were in dire straits at 40-9 before top-scorer Oscar Bryden (16no) and Martin Dean added 20 runs for the final wicket.

But the Town side turned what looked to be a hopeless predicament into a winning position by blitzing their hosts for just 37 thanks to the exploits of three men.

Martin Dean led the way with figures of 4-8 while Jamie Rice (3-9) and Matthew Anscomb (3-20) also tucked into the feast of wickets.

Only two batsmen from each side reached double-figures with Waresley man Toby Smith (16) sharing the dubious honour of being the top-scorer with Bryden.

Incredibly, Waresley’s two Saturday sides managed only 80 runs between them as Their first-team were skittled for just 43 in a Cambs & Hunts Premier League defeat to Godmanchester 1sts.

Two other local clubs are both going well in Division Two.

Richard King (5-12) and Ollie Vale (53no) were key performers as second-placed Alconbury saw off Nassington by seven wickets, while Tom Milner (4-34) and Alex Grange (63no) were the stand-out contributors in Upwood’s eight-wicket success at Barnack.

There was drama at Little Paxton where the hosts pipped previously unbeaten Adidda by one wicket in Division Four.

Captain Troy Beavis sealed the success with an unbeaten 13 as they scraped past the visitors’ offering of 116. Spinner Lewis Ager earlier took 4-42 for Little Paxton while Jack Brightwell (36) led the way with the bat.

Brampton suffered a four-wicket defeat at Ickwell 2nds at that level - despite a three-figure opening partnership.

Skipper Stuart Henderson (68) and Andy Canham (34) produced a 108-run stand before all 10 Brampton wickets fell for just 59 runs as they collapsed to 167 all out – a total the hosts eased past despite three wickets for Robert Jarvis.

Eaton Socon 2nds condemned table-toppers Newborough to a first defeat of the Division One season.

Roan Haarhoff hit an unbeaten half-century before Matt Taylor and Nick Hallam claimed three wickets apiece in the 73-run success.

Haarhoff’s boundary-laden innings – his 50no featured four fours and three sixes – followed solid contributions from Ray Tudor (43) and Mungo Ryan (39) as Eaton Socon 2nds reached 189-7.

And that proved to be more than adequate as the league leaders were sent packing for 116 in reply with Taylor (3-20) and Hallam (3-30) impressing. Hallam claimed the final wicket of Matt Cawley, who hit 43 for beaten Newborough.

Ramsey 2nds were seen off by five wickets at Peterborough side AK XI in another Division One clash.

Not even the presence of first-team skipper Michael Caffekey could inspire the local side. He was one of eight batsmen to fall in single figures as Ramsey 2nds were dismissed for 108.
