POOR defending cost Godmanchester Rovers after they had taken an early lead against mid-table Gorleston on Saturday.
Rovers went into the match high on confidence after the previous Saturday’s FA Vase win over Eynesbury Rovers, when manager David Hurst said he believed his team would continue to improve.
In his absence, however, assistant Neil Morgan took control against Gorleston, and will have been disappointed at the way his side failed to hold their advantage after going ahead early on.
Ben Colmer got Rovers off to a flyer when he nipped in to score at the near post after 20 minutes. Jake Burton broke down the right and cut the ball across for Colmer to poke home a simple tap-in.
However, the composure that had served Rovers so well the week before evaporated within minutes. By the half-hour mark Gorleston were level when Chris Bond pounced on a half-cleared corner and slotted home.
The visitors were ahead before the break when Rovers centre-back Hayden Beasley planted the ball past his own keeper.
Goddy had chances in the second half to level, with Mark Boucher going closest, but they were undone by two second-half breakaway goals as they pushed for the equaliser.
Mitch Forbes tucked away the first for the Greens, and Chris Sandford added the second to make the final scoreline comfortable.
