PROMOTED Godmanchester Rovers can win the Ridgeons Division One title on Saturday if they beat Whitton United at Bearscroft Lane.

Last weekend, Goddy celebrated securing their promotion to the Premier Division of the Eastern Counties League after beating Debenham LC 5-0 in Suffolk. And on Tuesday night they leapfrogged Thetford Town to go to the top of the division when the two teams met at Bearscroft Lane and Rovers won 2-0 to draw level on points but with a better goal difference.

James Hall scored his fourth goal in four days when he followed his hat trick at Debenham with another against Thetford. Joe Furness, who also scored the previous Saturday, got the other.

Now the title will now be decided in the final game of the season tomorrow (Saturday, April 21) with Goddy at home to third-placed Whitton United and Thetford at home to mid-table side Long Melford.

Goddy’s joint manager Nev Nania said: “It has gone all the way to the wire but the players are very focused, confident and in form going into the last few weeks of the season.

“If they can play with the same determination on Saturday and the following couple of weeks in the cup finals, I am sure they will get their just rewards.”

Goddy will face Whitton for a second time in seven days when they play them in the Ridgeons Division One Cup at Mildenhall Town next Friday. Then, on the following Friday, they will meet St Ives Town at The Hunts Post Community Stadium in the final of the Hunts Senior Cup.
