Godmanchester Rovers boss Matt Clements is seeking more firepower to boost his promotion-chasing squad.

Leading scorer James Hall is the only recognised striker at Clements’ disposal following the departure of Ben Yeomans (Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division rivals Mildenhall thought to be his likeliest destination) and the return of loan recruit Joe Peacock to St Ives Town.

And it is a matter he hopes to address in the coming days with potential targets in mind.

Clements said: “Ben has decided to move on and I fully understand his reasons. He wants more first-team football than I can guarantee him.

“We brought Joe in from St Ives as a short-term arrangement and we’re very grateful for his contribution during his time with us.

“We have a lot of very capable attacking players at the club, but we’re in a position where we could do with bringing in another out-and-out forward as James is the only one we currently have in the squad.

“I’ve got a couple of people in mind and we’ll see what develops over the next few days.”

Rovers were out of action last Saturday when a waterlogged pitch at the David Wilson Homes Ground forced the postponement of their scheduled home clash against Swaffham.

They don’t have to wait long to face the Norfolk side though as they visit their Shoemakers Lane ground tomorrow and it is seen as a vital match by Clements for his fourth-placed side, who haven’t played since thumping Newmarket 5-1 on Boxing Day.

He added: “It is a game that we should win on paper and one we need to make sure we do win. We’ve had a couple of good responses to bad results lately, but now it is about trying to put a run together.

“We’ve got a busy month with some important league games and a couple of cup quarter-finals, and hopefully we can get ourselves off on the right track.”

Rovers wideman Dan Kerrigan is to return to former club Hardwick in the Cambs Premier Division to get regular football after a lengthy spell out injured.
