GODMANCHESTER ROVERS look to have ended their poor run with a win over fourth placed FC Clacton at Bearscroft Lane.

The hosts fell behind after just two minutes when Clacton bundled a goal in from a free kick. The lead did not last long though and Nicky Hurst equalised five minutes later to make it 1-1 at the interval.

Ten minutes after the restart Lee Boon tapped in after a free kick was spilt to put Rovers ahead, but the visitors equalised from a long throw in after 75 minutes.

Godmanchester then displayed some good football and a smooth passing move from the half way line was finished with Hurst's second goal. Two minutes before the end Lee Hazel fired home for the hosts to enjoy a comfortable victory.

Godmanchester Rovers co-manager Dave Hurst said: "We played really well, as we have been for the last few months without getting the results. Everything went against us before but now we are taking our chances and winning games.

"We have improved our defence but unfortunately still had a series of narrow defeats. We did better on Saturday and it was a good game, real end to end stuff that we deserved to win.

"We have been drawing a lot but I thought we would have to do something stupid not to win. I could feel that we were going to win and knew that we just had to keep working."

Godmanchester Rovers are now unbeaten in four games after losing four consecutive games to one goal. They next play St Ives at Bearscroft Lane in the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Thursday before they host Debenham LC on Saturday.
