Huntingdon Racecourse is braced for it’s biggest turnout of the year.

Up to 6,000 people are expected to attend the traditional Boxing Day fixture on Saturday with ticket sales well in advance of those seen in 2014.

The top two jockeys in jump racing - Richard Johnson and Aidan Coleman - both have five rides at Huntingdon and it could be a memorable meeting for one locally-based rider.

Luke Ingram, from Godmanchester, is chasing his first winner in the opening conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle over three miles and one furlong.

Ingram (22) is set to partner Aviador for his boss, Newmarket-based trainer Lucy Wadham.

That’s the first of seven races on a card which gets underway at 12.15pm with gates opening two hours earlier.

Huntingdon General manager Sian Williams said: “Boxing Day racing at Huntingdon Racecourse is as much a part of Christmas as turkey, mulled wine and crackers.

“We’re all geared up for what is always a very festive and affordable day out for families over the Christmas period.”

As usual, tickets for the meeting are slightly cheaper if bought in advance from http://huntingdon.thejockeyclub.co.uk or by calling 0844 579 3007. Children are also admitted free with paying adults.

The course restaurant is already fully-booked with hospitality places also sold out.
