Godmanchester Rovers took their third draw from six games from their trip to Thetford.

With both teams languishing in the lower half of the table and the home side’s record of three goals in four games, the match was expected to be a tight game, and so it proved.

Rovers shackled the Thetford forwards with ease, but could not find the finish to turn one point into three.

Manager David Hurst said: “We needed to tighten up at the back because we’ve conceded too many sloppy goals already this season, and we did tighten up.

“We had chances, but the Thetford keeper was in good form and kept us at bay.

“We got a point but on the balance of play it should have been three.”

Paul Bass was thwarted on two occasions in the first half and when he was upended in the box just before the break, Rovers’ strong shouts for a penalty were waved away by the officials.

The second half saw the visitors still hold the balance of play and with 20 minutes left the hosts settled back to play for the point.

Hayden Beasley planted a header just wide, Jake Burton’s shot was hacked off the line and Bass went close as Rovers looked for a winner.

There was a late scare for Rovers when the home side almost stole the show at the end, but keeper Carl Mackney was at full stretch to turn a goal-bound effort round the post for a corner.
