GODMANCHESTER slipped to defeat at Clacton on Saturday despite picking up maximum batting points on a lifeless wicket.
Clacton's classy batsmen, including two international cricketers, made light work of chasing Godmanchester's target of 284 as they coasted to victory.
Godmanchester batted first and newly-promoted opener Matt Durrant joined with Ollie Huggins to record Goddy's best opening partnership for two years (114).
Huggins eventually fell for his league best score of 66 while Durrant just missed out on his half century; out caught and bowled by Chris Swallow for 46.
Ghaffer Tazmi failed to build on his recent success as he made just 5 but Matt Pateman (55) and Craig Park (19) kept the total moving.
Paul Swannell (39) scored at a run a ball but Godmanchester will have been disappointed not to make 300 from a position of 144-1.

Batsman Mark Jones (39) kept the score ticking while Godmanchester were not helped by an injury to Elliott Baldwin.
Paul Wilkinson's 3-60 gave Goddy some hope but Clacton punished the visiting spinners and the home side made the target with three wickets and twelve overs remaining.
