Godmanchester Rovers co-boss Neville Nania hopes his managerial career will finish with a silver lining.

Nania is to stand down as co-boss for the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit at the end of the season - leaving Matty Haniver in sole charge.

The 59-year-old, who previously spent 10 years as chairman at St Ives, is likely to move into a new Sporting Director role which better suits his work and family commitments.

But he will remain in the dugout for the remainder of the current campaign with Rovers through to the Hunts Senior Cup Final, in a Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup final and still harbouring faint hopes of winning the Premier Division title.

He said: “We’re having a very good season and it would be great if we could cap it with a trophy or two.

“I’m very proud of the progress the club has made during my time here since 2010.

“But I’m a grandfather and I have a lot of work and family commitments. The new role will enable me to stay involved but won’t take up quite so much of my time.”

Godmanchester remain 13 points adrift of Premier Division leaders Norwich United after their top-of-the-table showdown was postponed due to an unplayable Bearscroft Lane pitch last Saturday.

Rovers, who travel to Brantham Athletic on Saturday, have attempted to bolster their squad this week with a double swoop for St Ives midfielder Dan Banister and Eynesbury hitman Lee Bassett.

But Banister has already snubbed their advances and Rovers boss Martin Field is adamant his star striker Bassett is going nowhere.
