GODMANCHESTER Rovers joint manager Nev Nania may have more pressing concerns with his team in the third round proper of the FA Vase this weekend, but their 3-1 defeat of Eynesbury Rovers in the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup last Saturday means they will face Ramsey Town in a New Year semi final.

Jordan Brockett scored twice and James Hall got the other goal for Goddy in their quarter final win with Darren Woodend on target for Eynesbury when they equalised in the first half.

But Nania said Godmanchester could have won the game by more goals had it not been for the Eynesbury goalkeeper Carl Mackney, who was playing opposite his older brother Rob in the Goddy goal.

“Carl was excellent and made some brilliant saves in the second half,” said Nania, who will try to sneak a look at Peterborough & District Premier Division side Ramsey before they meet at Bearscroft Lane on January 7.

“Paul Taylor is back there as manager,” he said. “Paul’s a good manager and with him in charge I know they will have a good team.”

Taylor himself will going into the game with a ‘nothing to lose’ attitude, after telling the Hunts Post: “We’ll be the lowest ranked side in the competition but that really won’t bother us too much.

“We’re not expected to win those types of games but it’s nice to be part of them.”

In the other semi final, scheduled to be played on the same day, St Neots Town will host St Ives Town, the other Huntingdonshire team who are still in the FA Vase.

St Ives beat Yaxley 4-0 in the other quarter final played on Saturday with Grant Robbins, Scott Fielding, Stuart Cobb and Lee Ellsion getting the goals.
