THERE were goals across the UCL Premier Division on Tuesday night, as St Neots went three points clear at the top.

Neots won 5-1 at Irchester United, but neighbours St Ives were unable to do them a favour, as they went down 5-3 to title-challengers Newport Pagnell.

St Neots came from a goal down to brush aside the challenge of Irchester, who went into the game second in the league. Tom Mills got the home side’s goal, but Shane Tolley levelled on half time.

Goals in the second period from Lewis Hilliard, Rob Hughes, Lewis Webb and Tolley again – making it 20 goals in 11 games for Saints – ensured the three points travelled back to the Hunts Post Community Stadium.

At Newport Pagnell, Darren Lynch and Matt Broomes scored two apiece, and Dan Newman put through his own net as Ives fell to defeat. St Ives struck goals through Carl Foreman and a Scott Fielding double but could not pull themselves back into the match.

King’s Lynn are second, three points behind St Neots with a game in hand after beating Boston Town 4-0 at The Walks.

Elsewhere, Peterborough Northern Star beat Blackstones 2-1 and Desborough Town beat Northampton Spencer 3-1.

Stewarts & Lloyds and Long Buckby played out a goalless stalemate, Yaxley regained some pride after their weekend thrashing by drawing 1-1 at home to Raunds, 10-man man Deeping rescued a 2-2 draw from Wellingborough, and Cogenhoe and Rothwell Corinthians drew 3-3.

In the first round of the Hinchingbrooke Cup, Eynesbury Rovers lost by a single goal to fellow UCL Division One side Kempston Rovers. Emmanuel Pondayi netted eight minutes from time for the Walnut Boys, as Rovers boss Matt Plumb made four changes to the side that had won 3-0 at Rushden & Higham United in the league the previous Saturday.
