GYMNASTS from the Huntingdon Olympic Gym Club have continued their amazing year by bringing home yet more titles - this time from the British Men's Championships.

A superb performance from Commonwealth medallist Louis Smith was the highlight of a fantastic weekend's gymnastics at the event, held at the Robin Park Arena, in Wigan.

Smith, 18, who recently claimed bronze at a world-class Grand Prix tournament in Germany, cemented his reputation by winning the British U18 All Around title and a clutch of individual apparatus medals.

Club mate Luke Folwell, himself just back from the World Championships in Denmark, rounded off a fantastic year to add an All Around third place to his Commonwealth bronze medal won earlier in the year.

Folwell also took the senior team title on vault and a silver medal on the parallel bars with Robert Payne adding the senior men's pommel horse trophy to the club's incredible haul.

Daniel Keatings delighted the audience by returning from a long period of injury to take the Pommel Horse Masters Title in an open aged event while Ahmahd Thomas claimed a creditable fifth position overall.

In the Junior event, Max Bennet, Alex Brailsford and Cameron Mackenzie produced steady performances on six pieces of apparatus to finish in fifth, seventh and eighth positions respectively.

The field contained 37 of the best U14 gymnasts in Britain and 13-year-old Bennet starred with a silver medal on the vault and a bronze on the parallel bars.

Paul Hall, head coach of HOGC, said: "This result rounds off an extremely successful year for the club, with success from county right through to world level.

"Now we have planning permission to extend our facility, it is important to keep producing these results to ensure Huntingdon gymnasts are in the GB Team for 2012.

"We are now actively in the process of seeking funding to realise this dream in the coming years."

This weekend Louis Smith and Daniel Keatings travel to Scotland to compete in the televised Glasgow Grand Prix, representing GB in a field of some of the world's best gymnasts.
