East League Division One NW Saffron Walden I 2 St Ives I 1 GOOD attacking play was shown by St Ives in this tough away tie as the hosts looked strong going forward. The first half ended a stalemate with one Saffron player having to go to hospital for an injury. The hosts scored quickly after the break and as Ives piled on the pressure a lapse in defending saw them fall further behind. Emily Crack scored from a penalty corner to bring Ives within a goal of Saffron but the hosts held on for the win. Cambs League Premier Division St Ives II 0 Ely I 4 ST IVES were crushed by table-toppers Ely and started Saturday's game on the back foot, conceding early on. Some solid defending saw the hosts soak up the pressure and keep the visitors at bay until the break. Ives started the second half determined to equalise, but Ely scored against the run of play to make things even harder for a tiring Ives side. The visitors kept pushing and scored a further two goals to secure their promotion. Cambridge East Premier Division Cambridge University III 4 Huntingdon I 4 HUNTINGDON battled hard and twice drew level but also twice squandered the lead against Cambridge University. The visitors started well but failed to convert chances but Joan Griffiths finally fired them ahead. The lead did not last long and the hosts soon scored two to go ahead, but Sarah Chadband replied for Huntingdon before the interval. Cambridge failed to use their possession effectively in the second half but soon took the lead again, though the visitors again equalised as Chadband's shot deflected in off Jackie O'Neil. A Griffiths pass was smashed home by Bernice Bales to put Huntingdon back in front, but the hosts again equalised for the match to finish a draw.
