Eynesbury boss Martin Field reckons hat-trick hero Jordan Nicholson should be playing at a higher level.

The player plucked from the Cambs League by renowned talent-spotter Field was the star turn as Rovers saw off Harrowby in the United Counties League Premier Division on Saturday.

Nicholson struck midway through the first half of a 5-3 success at Hall Road and then completed his treble with two goals in the closing stages.

Field said: “We picked Jordan up from Sawston in the Cambs League and he has a bit of talent.

“He has played most of his football wide on the left, but we’ve been using him up front and he is getting goals.

“He had a few injury problems earlier in the season, but he is playing really well and he should be at a higher-level in all honesty.”

Nicholson’s hat-trick took his goal tally into double-figures for the season, but Lee Bassett remains top of the club’s scoring chart with 16 league goals to his name.

He also scored against Harrowby with Tom Coles getting the other goal - an early equaliser - for a Rovers side who have found the net 17 times in their last four home games.

Field added: “It was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. We gifted them silly goals but did more than enough to earn the three points.

“I’m seeing massive improvement from the lads through the course of this season. If we can keep the nucleus of the squad together and add two or three new faces, we will really be able to compete.”

Eynesbury were due to visit AFC Kempston Rovers last night (Tuesday) and head for lowly Sileby Rangers on Saturday.
