HUNTINGDON entertained Newborough on Saturday in what promised to be an entertaining game following good early season form by both side. The home side won the toss and elected to bat on what looked to be a good wicket. Captain Roger Black must have been having second thoughts after the early loss of both Mohammed Iqbal and himself (both 0) but need not have worried as veteran Freddie Khan took control. Khan (78) steadied the ship with a sensible innings and along with Navid Ahmed (12) and Yasser Shafiq (46) took the side to a respectable position. It was left to a late surge by Nick Kumpukkal (24), Zain Huffan (31) and Humza Rashid (22*) that saw the home side reach a more than respectable 264-9 Stuart Layton (5-56) made the home batsmen work for their rewards but he had little support from his colleagues.

Newborough's reply was stifled by Humza Rashid (5-46) as the spinner tied down the visiting batsmen. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Gareth Clingo (63) the only one able to stop the slide and with Nomi Khan (2-21) bowling with economy Newborough never looked likely to mount a challenge. The visitor's total of 158 all out in 37 overs was aided by 23 extras.

The win keeps Huntingdon firmly in second place in the Huntingdonshire Division One just behind Orton Park who took a narrow win at Alconbury.
