St NEOTS Indoor Bowls Club's progression in this year's Denny Cup came to an abrupt halt at the weekend when they suffered a 78-71 defeat to Wellingborough Indoor Bowls Club.
With two rinks playing at home and two at Wellingborough the Saints home players must have felt confident after Wayne Bailey's rink had completed a good 22-16 win and skip James Price's rink had held their nerve to win 18-17.
The telephone call from Wellingborough brought both joy and sorrow as Robbie Coleman led his rink to a fine 24-18 but Barry Kitto's rink had suffered a massive 27-7 defeat.
When the combined shots had been added together St Neots were 7 shots down in the match despite victory in three of the four rinks.
