RACHEL Dunn was part of the England netball team that suffered a heartbreaking 51-45 semi-final defeat against reigning champions Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi yesterday (Tuesday).

The former Longsands College pupil and her team-mates must pick themselves up as they take on Jamaica on Thursday in an attempt to repeat their bronze medal success from Melbourne in 2006.

England had made it through their pool with wins over South Africa 54-36, Barbados 81-20, the Cook Islands 81-33 and a crushing 89-31 win over Papua New Guinea, where Dunn notched a personal 26-goal tally in the first two quarters.

The only blip on their road to the last four was a 47-41 reverse against New Zealand, the No.2-ranked country.

At the time of The Hunts Post going to print yesterday, England sat third in the overall medals table with 118 behind Australia and India, after picking up 30 gold, 50 silver and 38 bronze medals.
