St Ives Town have acted swiftly after losing management team Jez Hall and Warren Everdell and it is the former Huntingdon Town boss Ricky Marheineke who has landed the job.

Marheineke left the United Counties League side Huntingdon last year to become the assistant manager at Histon, the Conference North club. But the lure of the challenge at a Southern League club has tempted Marheineke back into Huntingdonshire and he will begin work on building a squad for next season immediately.

As the manager of Huntingdon, Marheineke dragged the club off the bottom of Division One of the UCL to the very top of that division in one full season and in their first season in the Premier Division, the club finished fourth.

This season, Huntingdon were aiming ever higher but midway through Marheineke decided to give it a shot at Histon, leaving his assistant Seb Hayes to take control at Jubilee Park.

Hall and Everdell stepped down as managers of St Ives last week after a successful first season in Division One Central of the Southern League.

St Ives director Gary Clarke said: “The search to replace the legendary management team of Jez Hall and Warren Woz Everdell was always going to be a challenging one. However, the club were very honoured by the number and quality of the applicants.

“The candidates that were interviewed were all equally qualified for the post and the board was left with a difficult decision in selecting a successor.

“It was felt that Ricky is the right person to carry on the legacy of Jez and Wozza and take the club forward and we welcome him to Westwood Road.”
