TALISMANIC St Neots Town skipper Lewis Webb reports back for pre-season training tonight (Tuesday) with one sole aim - promotion. Central midfielder Webb, 21, who will be handed the captains armband permanently following Glen Fuffs departure, said he expects a repeat of last seasons UCL title triumph by lifting the Southern League Division One Central trophy next May. Im anticipating well go up again, if Im honest - thats my aim - and Ill be very disappointed if we dont achieve that, he said. The way I see it, we were too good for the UCL last season with the players we had. Last season we also played and beat teams who finished at the top end of the league were going into. We beat Arlesey and Biggleswade, while Daventry went up from the UCL and very nearly got promoted again in their first season in Southern Division One. I expect us to be doing the same. On returning for what will be a rigorous pre-season, Webb said: Having the break was nice and I needed it. I played a lot of games last season around 60 I think - so by the end I was hanging on a bit. But Im glad to be back. Ive been doing bits and pieces and ticking over in the gym over the summer, but itll just be nice to get back playing some football. This will be the most ever games Ive ever played in a pre-season . I said to Dennis [Greene] that it seemed like a lot of games, but I think the idea is to use and rotate the whole squad and there are some good games in there. The signings weve made will improve us as a squad and were all eager to hit the ground running to ensure we get a good start in the league. The ex-Peterborough United youth team captain was described by his manager as the standout choice to lead the Saints next season and Webb says hell lead by example. I jumped at the chance straight away when Dennis asked me and its a real honour. Ive got a really good relationship with the St Neots fans and Ill be there to give the lads a kick up the backside when need be. Webb also said he hopes to repeat his goalscoring exploits from last season, revealing his initial target. Ive set myself a target of 15 and well see where it goes from there, he said. The target was the same last season and I managed to get 20, but I suppose being the penalty taker does also help.
