Ridgeons League First Division Cornard United 0-6 Godmanchester Rovers GODDY smashed beleaguered basement boys Cornard United 6-0 in their own back yard on Saturday but Rovers boss David Hurst reckons it could have been a cricket score. Hitman Paul Bass fired the shots that killed off ailing Cornard and his first half hat-trick all but settled the contest before the interval. Hurst said: Its no exaggeration to say that we could have ended up with 15 or 20 and, if wed won by that kind of scoreline, it wouldnt have been unfair on them. Cornard are a poor side to be honest and, without sounding too disrespectful, probably the worst Ive seen at our level. Sub Andy Rossi made the game safe by adding Rovers fourth just after half-time before Carl Foreman made it five and Jonny Hall headed home a sixth to complete the rout. The crushing victory also saw Rovers put one over on Cornard, having dropped two points in the home fixture back in October, when United escaped with a point from a 1-1 draw. Rovers host league leaders Cambridge University Press this evening and will be looking to avenge their cruel late 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture last month. Goddy will also be hoping for a similar result to that when CUP were last in town, beating them 4-2 in the First Division Knock-out Cup back in November. Then its a trip to Team Bury on Saturday with the sides having already shared the points after a thrilling 3-3 draw back in August.
