Town slumped to a 6-0 home reverse at the hands of Birstall United in a United Counties League Division One clash after conceding three times in each half. Woodhead also took drastic action in the wake of the Jubilee Park drubbing by releasing two players midfielder Ash Drummond and frontman Sheldon Washington who he felt were disruptive influences in his squad. He said: We made more than 100 mistakes during the course of the game and that sort of thing is always going to be punished. It has been a familiar story this season and it has to change. It didnt look like anyone wanted to be a team player. I had to release two lads after the game due to disruption thats been caused and was going to affect our progress. I would have regretted not making this decision. Im in a position where more bad results could cost me my job. Huntingdon had performed with credit last Tuesday when beaten 3-0 at Step 4 side Yaxley in the opening round of the Hunts Senior Cup. They have another tough knockout test against higher-level opposition tonight (Wednesday) when hosting Premier Division outfit Deeping Rangers in the opening round of the United Counties League KO Cup. Town could include two new signings in their squad with midfielder Ben Keating and attacking player Matt Wright arriving from Raunds Town. Keating spent last season with Huntingdon (although missed much of it with a serious knee injury) while Wright is a former St Ives Town youngster who is based in this area. They have both left Raunds after the Northamptonshire club sacked former Town chief Bob Warby as manager last week. Huntingdons next league fixture is a trip to Anstey Nomads this Saturday.
