Ricky Marheinekes team beat Wellingborough Whitworth 4-1 to leapfrog Harborough Town, who Whitworth had beaten just days before to do Huntingdon a massive favour. Marheineke said: At this stage of the season its really important you win games of football. It doesnt matter how you do it, as long as you win. Were in a good position. Theres still a long way to go nine games but well continue to take them one at a time and tick them off as we go. Captain Ricky Dear scored one of Huntingdons goals against Wellingborough and was lurking when the visitors scored an own goal later. On-loan striker Niks Savalnieks capped another great performance with a goal and Jamie Blackwell, who has been out injured for a couple of months, scored a cracker, chipping the Wellingborough goalkeeper from 25 yards. Eynesbury Rovers, who are eighth, also did Town a favour when they beat third-placed Bugbrooke St Michaels 3-0. The gap between Huntingdon and Bugbrooke is now 11 points. Godmanchesters 11-game winning run came to an end in Norfolk where they drew 0-0 with Fakenham but the gap between top and second still widened because Whitton United were without an Eastern Counties Division One game. Overall, it could be argued that this was two points dropped, said joint manager Nev Nania, but on reflection it was probably one of the hardest second halves we have played. St Neots caught up with Slough Town at the top of their table last week and took advantage of the Berkshire clubs second draw on the bounce to move away from them at the top when Shane Tolley struck twice and Dan Jacob once at Hayes. Meanwhile, St Ives are preparing for Saturdays massive FA Vase quarter final at Staveley Miners Welfare. Three coaches have been booked for the trip to north Derbyshire where they will meet the Northern Counties East League side for a place in the semi finals. Secretary Simon Clark said: Its such a massive game. The hype in the town is brilliant at the moment. There are still some spaces left on the third coach.
