Girls football is booming - and nowhere is that more evident than at Godmanchester Rovers Youth.
The local club has seen a sharp rise in the number of female footballers taking up the game in the past couple of years.
Back in June, 2014, they had only three girls at the club, but numbers quickly swelled and Rovers now have two girls-only squads (who play at Under 11 and Under 13 levels) as well as five girls playing in mixed teams.
“We’ve worked really hard to boost the number of girls playing football,” said Rovers official Colin Burroughes.
“Back in 2014, we made it an objective to improve numbers of girls playing football.
“We had six more girls come along to a taster session in September, 2014, with word of mouth and a schools’ tournament, run with the support of Stukeley Meadows, getting us to a point where we had a squad ready to play at Under 12 level in the 2015/16 season.
“The club repeated the mini tournament with Stukeley Meadows in March of this year and the subsequent interest led to the creation of a new Under 11 squad for this season.”
Godmanchester Rovers Youth are on the lookout for coaches to support the growth. Visit www.goddyrovers.co.uk for further information.
