St Neots are still expecting to travel to Hereford United for the opening game of the Southern League Premier Division, though the home side face a race against time to convince the council that their Edgar Street ground has been brought up to the correct safety standards. Despite the 300-mile round trip to the other side of the country, Saints should be more prepared than their opponents as Hereford have not played a pre-season friendly in front of a paying crowd. St Neots will be back on the road on Tuesday (August 13) to face Chesham. The Saints have added former Dunstable striker Nathan Frater and Mason Spence, who spent the tail end of last season at the club following his release from Colchester United, to the squad but will be without Ed Adjei this season after the versatile player left due to the travelling required in the league. Eynesbury Rovers take on Oadby Town in Leicester in the first game in the United Counties League Premier Division following promotion last time around. The fixtures have not been kind to Eynesbury, with their next two games also away from home. Firstly against Wisbech on Tuesday, then to Sleaford the following Saturday. Ricky Marheineke takes charge of his first league game with St Ives in the Southern League Division One on Saturday with an away fixture at North Greenford. It has been an action packed pre-season getting ready for Saturday when hopefully we will get three points, said Marheineke. Our aim is to finish in the top half of the table. If we are pushing for the play-offs that is an absolute dream first season. Saints have also fallen foul of the fixture gods as they too face two away matches on the trot with their second on Tuesday against Daventry Town. Godmanchester Rovers are the only side to play a home game on the opening day. They play Kirkley and Pakefield at Bearscroft Lane as they hope to secure promotion this season after missing out last time around. The only team not in action is Huntingdon, with Seb Hayes side facing Harrowby at Jubilee Park next Wednesday (August 13).
