The Saints turned a rare below-par performance when being held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Godalming in a Southern League Division One (Central) clash last Saturday. Marheineke must now decide whether to let the same players attempt to atone when they travel to Barton Rovers tomorrow night, or ring the changes. Marheineke said: I think we stole a point we didnt deserve on Saturday after playing really badly. It was an uncharacteristically under-par performance Ive got a decision to make regarding my team selection for Tuesday. It will be a case of deciding whether the same players deserve a chance to put this performance right, or whether the time has come to given an opportunity to others. Danny Watson fired Saints ahead at Godalming with a goal out of nothing on the half-hour. A Charlie DeAth free-kick was flicked into his path by Phil Draycott and he turned on the edge of the box before firing in a low finish. Saints also gained a numerical advantage shortly afterwards when Godalming man Will Hutton was red-carded following a moment of madness as he kicked out at Ben Seymour-Shove. But they were pegged back early in the second half when DeAth needlessly handled a shot that had crashed back off the crossbar. His indiscretion earned a yellow card and gave the hosts the opportunity to level from the spot. Saints did have chances to go back ahead as Watson sent a shot wide and substitute Ben Keating was denied a first St Ives goal by a block on the line, but they had to settle for what their manager dubbed an undeserved point. Marheineke added: We could, and probably should, have been 3-0 down by the time we went ahead. But we didnt get any control of the game, even after Godalming had gone down to 10 men. They got level through a crazy decision from my defender to handle the ball and then looked the likeliest team to win it. I would have taken a point before the game and will certainly accept it after seeing us perform so badly. Latest signing Declan Rogers was introduced as a second-half substitute as Saints dropped to third. They now trail leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds by three points.
