A last-gasp leveller cost St Ives Town the chance to go top of Southern League Division One (Central) last night.
Saints conceded in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Ware.
They had hit the front courtesy of a 10th minute own goal, but failed to take opportunities to increase their advantage before being stung late on.
Manager Ricky Marheineke, whose side remain third, admitted: “Our performance deserved three points, but we only came away with one.
“We should have been further ahead which wouldn’t have given Ware the chance to nick a draw.
“It is frustrating to fall short so late in the game and it felt more like a defeat than a draw.”
St Ives are back in action on Friday night when they entertain higher-level Kettering Town in an FA Trophy tie at ProEdge Westwood Road (8pm).
