Fakenham Town 1-1 Godmanchester Rovers

MISSED chances proved costly for Godmanchester Rovers as their sluggish start to the Ridgeons League Division One season continued with a 1-1 draw at Fakenham Town on Saturday.

Jonny Hall volleyed Rovers into the lead on 10 minutes, but they weren't ahead for long, as the hosts got themselves back on level terms 10 minutes later.

Chances came and went for Goddy, particularly for Paul Bass who, as well as hitting the post, wasted a golden opportunity to put them back in front on the hour mark when his penalty was saved.

Rovers boss David Hurst said: "We must have had 10 good chances and five one-on-ones against their keeper. On another day, Paul Bass would've had four or five.

"I was pleased with the performances and, with better finishing, we would have probably won 3-1 or 4-1 to be honest.

"We're playing well enough, but just not converting our chances. I suppose that's down to bad luck or bad finishing, maybe a bit of both.

"We know we are not where we should be in the league but it's early days and we'll have a look at it around Christmas time and see where we are then."

The point means Rovers sit fourth-bottom in the table going into Saturday's home league fixture against Long Melford.

Last night, Goddy were scheduled to be in Cambs Invitation Cup preliminary round action at home to Great Shelford.
