Two young goalkeepers are set for a summer battle to become the new St Neots Town number one.

Opportunity knocks at the Premier Plus Stadium this summer for Dan Swan and Harry Reynolds.

Swan played for United Counties League Division One title-winners Pinchbeck United at Step 6 with distinction last season while Reynolds earned rave reviews one level higher for Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Ely City.

Saints boss Matt Clements will run the rule over both goalkeepers in the coming weeks ahead of the new Southern Premier League Central season.

He said: "Dan and Harry are two goalkeepers we rate highly and both have been well recommended to us.

"We have invited both of them in for pre-season and it is up to them to come and impress us for the number one shirt."

Clements revealed he is not a fan of signing goalkeepers without seeing how they perform in front of his own eyes, and how they work with the club's goalkeeping guru Gary Dean.

He also drafted in two potential number ones for pre-season training last summer with Mikey Emery eventually getting the nod over Martin Conway.

He added: "It is the most important position on the pitch as far as I am concerned.

"It is always beneficial to see how goalkeepers perform in our environment and how they work with our goalkeeping coach to our methods."

Saints need to sign a goalkeeper after finishing last season with Cambridge United youngster Finlay Iron between the sticks.
