Eynesbury claimed a slice of revenge as they eased into the semi-finals of the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

Rovers triumphed 2-0 against lower-level Potton in a last-eight tie at Hall Road last Tuesday night – avenging their exit at the same stage of the same competition last season when facing the same opponents.

Leading scorer Dom Lawless made an early breakthrough with his 38th goal of the season and Craig Smith secured their passage when doubling the lead midway through the second half.

The victory came complete with a clean sheet for Cavan King, who stepped in to play in goal at late notice. King can normally be found operating as a central defender for Cambs League title-chasers Brampton.

Eynesbury will now host fellow United Counties League Premier Division outfit Yaxley in a semi-final clash which is still to be arranged. They also entertain the Cuckoos in the last four of the Hunts Senior Cup later this month.

Ducket has drafted in a new goalkeeper from Yaxley with Aaron Butcher the latest player to fill the club's problematic number one berth this season.

And he has also bolstered his attacking options by snapping up frontman Luis Vieira – a former St Neots Town youngster - from Cogenhoe.

“I've been chasing him since Tim Trebes left us at the end of November,” added Ducket.

“It didn't go anywhere at first, but I received a phone call last week from someone who suggested Aaron was now keen.

“Aaron played against us twice earlier in the season for Peterborough Sports in the FA Cup and did very well in both games. In fact he's always impressed me when I've come up against him and I'm delighted to have him on board.

“Luis is a lad with great potential. He's done well at Cogenhoe and he's someone who excites me. He is blessed with a lot of speed and will give us a different option in attacking areas.”

Butcher and Vieira are both set to feature when Eynesbury entertain lowly Sileby Rangers in the Premier Division this Saturday. Rovers' trip to fellow top-six side Deeping Rangers was postponed at the weekend.
