Ollie Drakes men saw off Gorleston 2-0 at the David Wilson Homes Ground thanks to two second-half goals. Captain Micky Hyem broke the deadlock on the hour after forcing the visiting goalkeeper into a mistake. Leading scorer Jack Chandler then doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after an Elkanah Sibanda cross had been handled. We were very good, said Drake. I was particularly delighted with how patient we were. We have a habit of becoming frustrated when not getting ahead early in games and try to force things. But we didnt do that on Saturday. We continued to play our football and got our rewards in the end. Rovers hectic conclusion to the season continues in the coming days as they host Stanway Rovers tonight (Tuesday) ahead of a trip to Fakenham Town follows tomorrow (Thursday). Their previous visit to the Norfolk club earlier this month was abandoned at half-time due to fog. Drakes side then have a Saturday home date against relegated Wivenhoe before a potentially crucial trip to current third-placed side Stowmarket on Tuesday. Rovers are 11 points behind Stowmarket but armed with three matches in hand. Drake added: Weve obviously got one eye on the Stowmarket game, but we have to ensure we put our full focus into every fixture. We cant afford any slip-ups. One bad performance or result will end our hopes of finishing third. Finishing fourth would still rank as an unbelievable season but were going for third for as long as its mathematically possible. And Drake revealed Rovers have plans to carry out improvements to their troublesome pitch during the close season. They have seen a stack of home fixtures postponed with a date against Kirkley & Pakefield being called off for the third time last Wednesday. Despite glorious weather on the day, the surface was still unplayable due to earlier wet weather. We all know the pitch needs a lot of work and there are plans in place to address it during the summer, continued Drake. Thats great for myself and the players. We have a terrific group of lads who want to be successful together and the fact the club are prepared to pay out to try to improve the pitch will only help.
