St Neots enjoyed a perfect end to a fine season when lifting the Hunts Senior Cup.

Matt Clements' men delivered a sensational display to slam lower-level neighbours Eynesbury Rovers 6-1 in the county showpiece last Wednesday.

Double-strikes from leading scorer Dylan Williams and player-coach David Bridges, along with goals from Nabil Shariff and Tom Wood, allowed the Southern Premier League side to claim revenge for a 2016/17 final loss at the hands of their United Counties League Premier Division rivals.

"It was the end of the season that we all wanted to enjoy," said Clements.

"The main priority was winning the final and lifting the trophy, but to do it in the manner we did was hugely impressive.

"We really clicked. We were good in all areas and it was a fitting finish to a season of progress.

"We were electric in the opening stages and getting the two-goal lead so early was a huge bonus.

"The third goal just before half-time ensured the match was in our hands and we kept going, kept creating chances and kept scoring goals in the second half.

"We know we have the tools to play exciting football and we showed that.

"I'm delighted for the players who have had me growling at them for most of the season. I'm a tough taskmaster and constantly ask them for more, and they usually respond in the right way.

"The club has been in the doldrums for the last two or three seasons. St Neots have been battling relegation in the league and had to watch other clubs - Godmanchester Rovers, St Ives and Eynesbury - all win this trophy.

"But it's great to be moving forward again as a club. We're the top team in the county in terms of league position and we now have the county cup to go with that.

"It's brilliant to be able to give some success to the supporters who follow us home and away, and also a great platform to build on for the future.

"But we have to ensure we do that - I'm ambitious and I know the boys are too."

Clements guided St Neots to 12th position in the Southern League Premier Division - their second-best finish at that level.
