Rovers already boasted two hot-shots in Craig Smith and Tom Coles, who struck 34 and 31 times respectively last season. Now Ducket has added another of the most prolific players in United Counties League Premier Division football to his ranks. Striker Dom Lawless, who found the net on 32 occasions for Newport Pagnell Town last term, has agreed to join Rovers promotion quest. Dom is a proven goalscorer who never stops working for the team, said Ducket. Hes someone Ive always liked and is another great signing, who has fitted in perfectly. Goals win games and its great to have so many players who are capable of putting the ball in the net. We didnt just rely on Craig and Tom last season we also had others chipping in with double-figures and well need that again. Lawless is the second new striker to arrive this summer with former Huntingdon and St Ives man Stuart Eason also joining. Goalkeeper Dan George and defensive colossus Steven Gentle are other notable additions to a squad which lifted the Hunts Senior Cup last season. Rovers have their first pre-season friendly on Saturday when travelling to higher-level side AFC Dunstable (4pm). The match was initially due to be staged at Hall Road, but Rovers pitch is not quite ready for use so has been switched to their opponents 3G surface. It is the first of seven summer outings as Rovers prepare to a promotion challenge next season when two sides will go up from the Premier Division. After back-to-back top-six finishes and their impressive summer recruitment, Rovers are likely to be strong contenders. Ducket added: Im delighted with the squad weve been able to put together. Were looking strong all over the park and the boys are all determined to win more silverware after lifting the county cup last season. The players can control their own destiny, but they have to remember it takes mental strength as well as ability to win league titles. Weve fallen away towards the end of the last two seasons and cant allow that to happen again.
