Eynesbury are homing in on the United Counties League Premier Division top six again - after putting a painful FA Vase exit out of their minds in perfect fashion.

Rovers were dumped out of the famous competition when suffering their heaviest defeat for almost six years – a 7-0 drubbing at Yaxley – last Saturday.

But they were quickly bang on song when delivering a dominant display to ease to a 3-0 league success against Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday night.

Striker Craig Smith and midfield man Hayden Bream both struck against their former club with teenage full-back Ben Hickling providing the pick of the goals at Hall Road.

The only surprise was that the match was not over by half-time following an opening period of one-way traffic.

All the hosts had to show for their superiority was Smith’s seventh goal of the season as he rose highest to head in a Bream cross in the 25th minute.

The creator and scorer had both been thwarted by impressive Northern Star goalkeeper Dan George before carving out a breakthrough, and the visiting number one also pulled off a super stop to deny Allan Owen.

Eynesbury had to wait until midway through the second half to double their lead, but it was a goal of the highest quality.

Daniel Webb’s searching cross-field pass landed perfectly at the feet of on-rushing full-back Hickling, who steered a first-time finish across George and into the far corner.

And victory was secured with a quarter of an hour to go as Bream sent a fierce, rising shot from 20 yards past George.

Eynesbury are back on home turf at Hall Road this Saturday when they entertain Deeping Rangers.
