SCOTT Houghton labelled Barrington Belgrave 'the Wayne Rooney of St Neots' after the striker's superb hat-trick.
Belgrave had missed Town's first few games of the season through suspension but the former league player made an immediate impact on his return.
The forward lashed in a hat-trick in 14 first half minutes that effectively ended the tie as a contest.
Manager Houghton purred: "Having Barrington back in the side made a massive difference to us.
"We cruised to 3-0 and after that we were able to take our foot off the pedal a bit and we coasted."
The former Yeovil Town man opened the scoring after just nine minutes and he added the second four minutes later. He completed his hat-trick on 23 minutes, powerfully winning a header.
That looked to be the way the score would stay until two late goals from the visitors gave the scoreline a gloss.
Ashley Deverall scored the fourth of the game before former player-manager Steve Kuhne rounded off the scoring in the final minute.
The win means St Neots have won two and drawn one of their opening three league games this season.
Houghton added: "Looking at the fixture list, it was disappointing to have five of the first six matches away from home but if we can continue this good form it will stand us in good stead."
St Neots Town travel to Newport Pagnell for a league match on Saturday and welcome Northampton Spencer for a League Cup tie on Tuesday evening.
