Godmanchester Rovers’ glorious start to the season continued as they made FA Cup progress yesterday.

Ollie Drake's men saw off Newport Pagnell 2-0 in an extra preliminary round tie at the David Wilson Homes Ground.

Joe Furness struck the opener from the penalty spot midway through the second half after Matty Allan had been brought down, and Allan then hit a late clincher himself after being sent clear by Jake Burton.

The success earned £2,250 in prize money and set up a trip to fellow Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Thetford in the next round.

It was a third successive victory for Rovers in a campaign in which they had already won their opening two league outings – also without conceding a goal.

Eynesbury are also enjoying a pleasing start to the new campaign and avoided slipping on a potential FA Cup banana skin.

United Counties League Premier Division side Rovers triumphed 2-1 at lower-level Division One outfit Raunds Town in their extra preliminary round tie yesterday.

Two summer signings hit their first goals for the club. Defender Luke Smith's opener was cancelled out before T'ai Williams struck a second-half winner.

Rovers had to see out the game with 10 men after Rob Ducket was dismissed to earn a preliminary round date at Histon of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

Huntingdon suffered a second successive home defeat in United Counties League Division One.

The new-look Town squad were beaten 1-0 by Melton Town at Jubilee Park with the only goal arriving on the hour.
